The ID or Punchdown rear interface was originally developed for the telecommunications industry, but is still frequently used in patching systems.



With the Punchdown, you simply insert the wire onto the contact and punch-down, pushing the wire into the ID (insulation displacement) contact area.



The Punchdown is ideal for quick terminations. It is not, however, well suited for changes, and it doesn’t accommodate the pre-termination of cabling.
